About Saaremaa

KURESSAARE & SAAREMAA - THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Both the town of Kuressaare and Saaremaa in general, offer plenty to do all year round. During the summer months visitors arrive on the island from all over Europe and enjoy long sunny days, and high temperatures. The Baltic Sea can beat the Mediterranean in terms of temperature and the endless, clean quiet beaches amaze first time visitors. Swimming anywhere in Saaremaa is safe and enjoyable. The relatively low salt content of the coastal waters also make a for a pleasant contrast to more well-known coastal holiday areas. In Kuressaare itself, there is a nice swimming beach. Look for the sign to "Supelrand". It's very close to the Castle Park.

By contrast, Winter can be harsh in Estonia, although the 2007/8 winter was extremely mild by Estonian standards. Few visitors come to Saaremaa in the winter months other then for short-break Spa tourism.

Close to Kuressaare there are many activities to try and places to visit. Here's our selection;

Kuressaare Yacht Harbour
This is an international port for small ships. The harbour has received the Blue Flag for environmental friendliness since 2004.
