Kuressaare is t
he
capital of Saaremaa and by far the largest
town on the island. It has a long and rich
history and is located on the coast of the
Livonian Bay. In written records Kuressaare
(Arensburg) market town was first mentioned
in 1424.

Kuressaare becomes ever more popular both
among visitors from abroad and Estonians
too.
The growing number of spas has returned the
town's former reputation to a resort town.
It is pleasant to walk and bike in
Kuressaare as the town has become especially
beautiful in recent years, especially the
beach promenade whitch is great for romantic
walks.
In the summer there are open-air cultural
events nearly every day, plays in the
Kuressaare town theatre and concerts in
local culture centre-all ideal after
relaxing in the spas.
Those interested in sports can enjoy the
modern sports hall that was recently
finished and in summer 2008 a new golf
course opens.
